Why is the Study of Prophecy Important?

If you sincerely want to know God in all of His might and power, His righteousness and hatred of law breaking, His justice and mercy:  Study Prophecy! The God you discover in the pages of the Bible may not fit the limited version you have held of Him in the past but the power and motivation you will receive will go far beyond the time you spend searching.  The more you study prophecy, the more you will understand the character, attributes, and actions of the Creator God.

We need to understand that He created a Master plan before He laid the foundations of the earth and this plan was set in motion to create a “peculiar people” who love each other and love Him.  These people would become His family and would inherit vast portions of His creation.  Just the knowledge that He made this plan even before He began to lay the foundations of the earth should give you pause to contemplate a God Who is that powerful!

He has graciously decided to share that plan with His future family. Sadly, there is quite a modern movement among Bible Believing Churches of all types to mostly ignore the study of prophecy because it is considered too controversial and too divisive. Some well intentioned Christians feel that it is not relevant to our modern world with all of its challenges and problems.

If that is true, it is difficult to understand WHY God would put so much emphasis on prophecy? Perhaps these dear people that struggle so much with the study of prophecy are not aware that God filled about one fourth of the Holy Scriptures with it? The Apostle Paul made this point in his book to the Thessalonians.

Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 ESV)

We need to study the hundreds of little puzzle pieces found within the pages of the Scripture and work together as Believers to understand His message to us.  Daniel was told that “knowledge would increase” during these last days.  Perhaps he meant that knowledge about God’s prophecy would increase instead of man’s learning!

Remember how should we should study!  Don’t argue.  Examine every Scripture.  Ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance for truth and protection against error.  Don’t force “puzzle pieces” (nuggets of Scripture) into places they won’t go just because they serve an agenda you or I have for a particular theory.  All Scripture is true.  None can be ignored.  It all has to fit somewhere.

Good fortune in your journey!  Let’s begin!
